Australian designer, Mark Newson, in collaborations with luxury watch manufacturer, Jaeger-LeCoutltre, redesigned the cultish clock that “runs on air.” The Atmos 561 ($20,500) clock is suspended in a block of Baccarat crystal filled with a mixture of gas and liquid ethyl chloride. Powered by variations in temperature which expands and compresses the air that winds the mainspring, the Atmos is pretty close to perpetual motion and can function for years without human intervention.
